Cameron and Leah Meet Aaron

Nana picked up Cameron and Leah from school and brought them up to the hospital.  She didn't tell them if Sweetie was a boy or a girl, or what Sweetie's name was or anything.  We wanted it to be a surprise when they arrived at the hospital.

Walking in to the room.  Cameron was excited, since he had done this before and knew what to expect, while Leah was a bit more shy.

Cam jumped right up onto the bed

The first thing they said was "She's so cute!"  Both kids were completely convinced that Sweetie was going to be a girl!  We told them that the baby was a boy and the next thing out of their mouths was "He's so cute!!"

We told them his name is Aaron Timothy.  They wanted to hug and kiss him!

They were so sweet with Aaron!

Of course, the first thing they wanted to do was hold him.  Cameron, as the biggest sibling, got to go first.  He was so excited and proud.

Kisses for Aaron

Leah says "Awwwwww" while Cameron is very careful to be supporting Aaron's head.

My boys!

Leah's turn!  I love this picture of her.  What a gorgeous doting big sister.

Kisses from Leah

They asked to see Aaron's hair.  They thought it was funny how dark his hair is and thought it was even funnier when we told them that they both had that color hair when they were born too.

Our first family of five picture!

Aaron was a very considerate little guy and brought some gifts for his big brother and big sister.

Their first present from Aaron were Big Brother and Big Sister shirts (made by the lovely and talented Jaime Lange).  Both kids loved their shirts!

More presents?  Where did that baby learn to wrap?  And how did he fit those gifts in Mama's tummy?

Star Wars lightsabers for Cameron and a Tinkerbell doll for Leah.  Apparently Aaron was really listening when the kids talked to him (well, my belly) about the things they love!

Every time a baby is born in St. Joe's, they play a song to tell the whole hospital.  Leah got to press the button to tell everyone that we have a new baby in our family (since Cameron got to push it when Leah was born).  She was excited to get to do such an important task.

Both kids had another very important job to do next: giving Aaron his first bath.  We had been telling Leah how Cameron gave her her first bath, so the bath was definitely one of the things they were looking forward to.  Sally, our daytime nurse at the Birth Place, started off by cleaning off Aaron's face while the kids watched.

Next the kids got some soap on their hands and washed off Aaron's tummy and arms.

Leah did a great job!

At this point, Sally took off Aaron's diaper.  It turned out that Aaron had done a GIANT poop.  GIANT.  She cleaned him up, but while the diaper was off, Aaron peed all over the place - a big fountain right up in the air!  After that, Cameron was not interested in giving Aaron a bath because he was afraid that  Aaron would pee or poop on him.  Leah wasn't afraid and helped give the rest of the bath.

After washing legs and feet, it was time to turn Aaron over and wash his back and bum.

Leah was very methodical and wanted to make sure that Aaron got nice and clean.

Aaron got his hair washed, but the nurse mainly did that herself.

Watching Aaron get his hair washed.

Once we had a nice clean baby, it was time for another family picture.  I love this one - everyone is looking at the camera AND smiling (well, not Aaron... but the rest of us).  How often does that happen?

Leah wanted to hold Aaron again.

Kisses from big brother and big sister

Proud big sis!

Cameron's turn to hold Aaron again

What a cute little guy!  And check out his sweet orange hat!  The nurses showed us a selection of hand-knitted hats in a bunch of colors and told us to pick one.  We decided to let Cam and Leah choose.  The nurses showed them the same choices when they arrived at the hospital and both immediately shouted out "Orange!"  We thought it was funny because they rarely agree when giving a choice like that and also because orange isn't a color either of them ever pick.  Since they were both so enthused about orange, we went for it.  I guess Aaron is our little SU baby.

Trying to get a picture of all three of them together.  Leah was not in the mood for a picture though.

This one is slightly better

Okay, enough lying next to Baby Aaron, I want to hold him again!

He is just too cute!!

Leah pulled down his swaddle and was rubbing his chest, saying "He has such soft skin."

Holding Aaron's hand

Leah's turn to hold his hand

It was after 5:00 at this point and time for the kids to head home and get dinner.  Nana stayed the night at our house so that the kids could sleep in their own beds and stay in their normal routines.  Before they left, Leah asked to hold Aaron one more time.

Cameron snuggled with Aaron while Leah held him.

Then of course, he needed one last turn too.

The kids wanted to come back to the hospital the next day, so they were surprised and happy when we told them that they didn't need to because we would be bringing Aaron home the next day.  After giving Aaron a million hugs and kisses good-bye, they left with Nana, excited to go get dinner out somewhere and head home to play.
