Two Firsts for Leah

On Saturday, Leah had two firsts: her first bottle and her first time in the crib. She has been nursing so well that we decided to try giving her a bottle this weekend. For her very first bottle, we decided that this big and important job should fall to her big brother. So Cameron fed the first couple of ounces of Leah's first bottle to her. He was very proud to do it, but then pretty quickly got bored when he realized how slow she eats! So Daddy got to take over for the rest of the bottle.

I love how Leah is looking up in this picture like, "What is going on?"
Cameron was concentrating really hard to make sure he did it right
He was really proud, but also very serious about it
Daddy's turn!
He was a pro, remembering how to feed a little one
Cameron wanted one more turn at the end of the bottle and gave Leah the last little bit

The other big first was the first time Leah went in her crib. We hadn't put it together until this past weekend because we didn't want Cameron to get confused or upset or think the baby was taking his old bed. So we waited until he was ready and asking about where her crib was, which was just this past week. Cam and Daddy took the crib out of Leah's closet and put it together. Cam was a great helper to Tim, holding the pieces in place so that Daddy could screw it together. After it was done, he wanted to get in with Leah and show her how it was done. It is important for big brothers to show their little sister things like that!

Leah in her crib - she looks so tiny! She won't actually sleep in the crib for another month or two, but it is nice having it together in the nursery.
Hey Leah, this is your crib
How are you, baby?
A kiss for my little sister!
And then they both got out and Cam wanted to hold Leah. This picture cracked me up because it kind of looks like she is levitating!

Leah's First Real Bath

Leah's umbilical cord fell off a few days ago, so we were finally able to give her a real bath! Cameron was so excited to help and was a really good helper for her whole bath. His job was to put soap on her and then to wash it off. He relished the job of washing her off - he loved filling his cup with water and dumping it all over her. Leah really liked the bath too, she hardly cried at all and mainly just relaxed and enjoyed it. Cameron has always loved baths, even when he was a little baby, so hopefully Leah will be the same way!

Right after I placed her in the bathtub - she didn't cry or anything, just kind of sat there taking it in.
Hey, this isn't so bad...

May I dump the water on her?
After being granted permission and being shown how to check the water to make sure it was the right temperature, Cameron dumped cup after cup of water onto Leah.
Washing her back and bum. She really liked lying on her stomach and being washed.
We have a ton of pictures like this because she was being so adorable!!
Time to wash her hair!
Scrub, scrub, scrub
And the rinse!
She didn't mind at all when we dumped water over her head. We took this same approach with Cameron - dumping water on his face and head right from the start - and he is really good about it still. He isn't afraid of dunking his head or getting water on his face. Hopefully our strategy will work the same with Leah!

Fun Sunday activities

Sunday was a beautiful day, so we took advantage of it in the afternoon after everyone woke up from their naps. First, we went for Leah's first walk! Mama hasn't been feeling good enough to walk until now, so the rest of the family waited to go for a walk until Mama could join them. We didn't go far, just to the end of the road and back, but it was a good start and Leah slept the whole way.

Cam on his bike. Tim was actually lying on his stomach in the middle of the road to take this picture. That is one of the joys of being the only one in the neighborhood - no one to see you doing silly things like lying in the road to take a picture, and no cars to worry about coming down the road!

After our walk we had dinner and Cameron ate so well that we decided to go get ice cream as a special treat. (Okay, not really - we had already decided before dinner that we wanted to go out for ice cream... luckily, Cameron ate really well and so he got the ice cream as a special treat.) Cam was really excited to get his very own cone.

Cameron was a very slow ice cream eater and was making a mess. Nana helped him stay clean while he ate.
He didn't quite understand how to eat ice cream - he was just doing these tiny little licks that didn't get the job done. Luckily, he had Mama and Daddy to help him clean up the cone when it got too drippy!
Cameron really enjoyed his ice cream but was also excited to get down to the cone
Leah didn't get any ice cream, poor baby!
Before we left, Cam had to sit on the merry-go-round. He was being a crazy cowboy in this picture!

Leah's Visitors

Leah has been able to meet lots of new people in the past few days. On this past Wednesday, Omi and Opa came to meet their great-granddaughter. Leah was pretty sleepy so they did not get to see her awake too much, but she was good for lots of cuddles!

Cameron had some really good snuggles with Omi and Opa too. He kept asking Omi to play hockey with him, and whenever she wanted to take a break and sit on the couch, he told her she was in the penalty box!

Over this past weekend, more visitors came: Mimi, Grandpa and Auntie Cathy! They came up on Friday night and stayed for the weekend. They got to spend lots of good time with Leah and Cameron, plus Grandpa and Daddy got a ton of yard work done.

Checking each other out
On Saturday night, after tons of yard work, we had a fire in our new fire pit. I was worried about Cameron being close to the fire pit (Leah and I didn't go out to the fire), but I guess I shouldn't have been because he wasn't too interested in the fire. Instead, he was interested in having Mimi pull him all over the yard in his wagon!
