There was a cool lighthouse out on that rock. It's on the list for the next time we drive down CA-1!
Our first stop was Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. There were lots of really cool hiking trails, but we decided not to check out any of them with the kiddos. Tim and Cameron went on one small walk along a creek while I stayed in the car feeding Aaron. Leah decided to stay with Aaron and I.

Heading back to the car to find Mama, Leah and Aaron. Cameron loved looking for and finding a bunch of lizards along this part of the trail.
After checking out a bit more of the state park, we headed for a beach that Aunt Susan had told us about, Pfeiffer Beach. It was at the end of an unmarked one lane road, so it wasn't very crowded. What an amazingly beautiful place!
There was a little "beach lake" that we had to walk around when we first got there. The water was very warm but it was standing water so it seemed a little gross.

This is how Mr. Aaron hid for most of the time on the beach - napping under the sun cover in the pack. He didn't seem to mind a bit though.

Towards the end of the beach there was a huge tall sand dune. The kids took one look at it and went running to climb up it (and when I say "the kids," I mean Tim too!). We knew Cameron would be able to climb it without any problems, but were so proud of Leah for powering up the giant dune too.

This picture gives a better idea of perspective. It was a very tall and pretty steep hill.

JUMP!!! (That is Tim in the middle of the picture, jumping off a cliff about 10 feet above the dune. There were some kids doing the same thing and he thought it looked like a good idea.)

Yes, at the end of the day their clothes were completely full of sand. Pictures like this show why that should not be a surprise at all.

Heading back out of the beach to the parking lot. The kids thought it was hilarious that the walkway was full of sand.

At this point it was pretty late and we were hungry for lunch. We weren't sure where to go so we headed into the town of Big Sur. Town is probably a stretch - it was a post office, a gas station and one restaurant. Lucky for us, it was a tap house restaurant that had both great beer and great food!

Next up along CA-1 was Julie Pfeiffer Burns park. It was a short little hike to check out a great waterfall. To get to the waterfall trail from the parking lot, we had to walk through a cool tunnel. The kids liked yelling while we were in the tunnel because it made a cool echo.

There's the waterfall! This is another amazing beach that is only accessible via kayak.

So, so beautiful.
As we continued our drive down the Pacific Coast Highway, we stopped at Piedras Blancas Park. There were SO MANY elephant seals on the beach! It was really cool to see them all gathered there.
They are HUGE
And have really funny looking noses. The kids thought they were really cool.
Our stopping place for the night was Morro Beach, CA. We stayed at a hotel right along the water. We were pretty tired out so we walked to a nearby restaurant for dinner.

Looks like a great day visiting a bunch of iconic Big Sur places. So glad you got to see them! Big Sur is so awesome. Love the way you find fun everywhere you go.
